California native John Lee Beatty has designed 115 Broadway shows in a long career and has been equally busy at Manhattan Theatre Club, Lincoln Center Theater, Circle Repertory Company, Encores! at New York City Center, Public Theater, and Shakespeare in the Park, as well as at major regional theaters. At Geffen Playhouse, he designed Time Stands Still and The Country House, and in Los Angeles multiple productions at Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson Theatre, Civic Light Opera, and Kirk Douglas Theatre. Broadway productions include Junk, Sweat, Other Desert Cities, Doubt, Rabbit Hole, Chicago, Proof, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Burn This, Talley’s Folly, The Color Purple, The Sisters Rosensweig, and notable revivals of A Delicate Balance, The Heiress, The Royal Family, and Dinner at Eight. Awards include two Tonys, and multiple Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Obies, the New York Drama Critics, Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, and the Theater Hall of Fame.
