Over the last few months, the Geffen social channels have been abuzz with PBS SoCal’s magazine show — Articulate. Having completed its 3rd great season, Articulate highlights creative thinkers and how they help form our understanding of the world. This nationally syndicated public TV show is bursting with stories about extraordinary human beings. Want to know more about what is going on in the Arts and culture? Well, read on — and enjoy a recap of Articulate, Season 3 — and a preview of episode #302, which will be airing Saturday, August 11th.

Back for Season 3 of Articulate featured Pulitzer Prize winners, Grammy winners, bestselling authors, genre-bending choreographers, and visual artists who revel in complex thinking. They reassert the show’s standing as a program dedicated to exploring artistic expression, and human, existence. “We are continually astonished by the wealth of wisdom in the minds of the artists, innovators, and creators, who appear on Articulate,” says host Jim Cotter. “They offer profound insights into the human experience that we all share.”

Season highlights include stellar musicians and storytellers like Ani DiFranco, Ibeyi and Tank and the Bangas. In the full-length episode #308 “The Renaissance Woman”, musician Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond performs songs and shares stories that have shaped her life. Filmed in front of a live audience.

Whatever your art preference, Articulate delivers with artists from all disciplines. Young adult author Shannon Hale talks gender roles and her novels in segment “Princess for Boys”. In”, episode #309, sculptor Steve Tobin, pushes the limits of possibility with his revelatory sculptures, and in the segment “Going Home Big” from episode #306 multi hyphenate, Josh Radnor, seeks the truth in the segment “Actor-Writer-Director-Musician”, from Episode #310.

Knowing the rules, then breaking them is common to all Articulate’s subjects in Episode #302: Caroline Shaw, Lizzo, and Robert Janz. Composer Caroline Shaw sees no boundaries — musical or otherwise. For Robert Janz, art is more fleeting, like life itself and owning your place in the world is difficult, but R&B singer-songwriter Lizzo refuses to play small.
